BIOGRAPHYI am currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Human Development area with an interest in identity development, which is one of the central developmental tasks of adolescence and emerging adulthood. I adopt a developmental psychological approach to identity, and my research focuses on an overarching question: How do adolescents and emerging adults, particularly racial and ethnic minorities, become who they are? My program of research examines how identity develops and what functions identity serves. I employ various methods and techniques—including surveys, narrative interviews, and critical incident techniques—to better capture the complexity of identity development and its psychological and behavioral outcomes. I have conducted several projects and thankfully, all of my research have been funded with different research grants (see more in my CV).
Research interests: • Identity development in adolescence and emerging adulthood, particularly for ethnic and racial minority youth • Narrative psychology, identity, and methods • Mixed methods research, quantitative and qualitative approaches to stability and change • Educational experience of under-represented ethnic minority students, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields |
